Passion or Paycheck?

Maybe it’s my age, but I am having a major dilemma….do I follow my passion or get a paycheck? One of my dearest friends called from Miami this week as he does every couple of weeks, and we got in this long phone conversation about the subject. Our final decision: Do what you have to fund your passion….with the paycheck.

This is what I found out: More than two million U.S. workers voluntarily quit their jobs every month, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. At the same time, only 18% of workers are engaged and passionate about their jobs. So here is what I figure…Discover your passion. Do work that blends that passion and gives you significant income. Be responsible, pay your bills and have money left over. Make a difference and change the world. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to have it all. That is exactly what I want…..ALL!

I encourage you to pursue your passion, devote yourself to a worthy cause and make a great living. It does not have to be an either/or. Don’t settle for less than both. I think it really comes down to an individual’s ingenuity and courage to be themselves. And it does take courage to be yourself. Assuming we can find that courage and tap it. Hell, I am just finding mine…and I have been looking for a long time!

I believe that everyone has talent. What is rare is the courage to follow it.

Quote for this week: If you do something out of duty, it will deplete you. Do something out of love and it will energize you.
