I AM TIRED OF IT! Tired is not enough strong enough word….SICK OF IT! When you eat a limited amount of food there is only so many ways you can cook chicken, fish or any other kind of protein. But I think I have a solution to my problem. Remember I said a couple of weeks ago that the farmers markets are in full bloom? Well so are all different kinds of herbs. Here are some ideas to get different taste to those meals I keep eating:
- Spices and herbs should be used to enhance the natural flavor of food–not disguise or obscure it. Many herbs and spices can complement a dish and each other; however, be selective in their combinations. Avoid using too many at one time.
- Do not sprinkle seasoning directly from the container into a steaming pot. The rising moisture may diminish the potency of the spice or herb remaining in the jar, or may cause it to clump or spoil more quickly. I never knew this until recently…..
- Crush leaf herbs, such as oregano, thyme or basil, in your hand before use for a more immediate release of flavor. I also learned to dry out peppers and crush them in my hands.
- I saw an article that said eating fresh rosemary boost your brain energy. The study reported that having higher blood levels of one of this herb’s main chemical compounds—absorbed from its aroma—was linked to the speed and accuracy of study participants’ cognitive performance. The higher the level of the compound in the blood, the better the outcome. I need all the help I can get! HA!
OK so I am on a fresh herb kick. We will see how this goes. Let’s just hope I get some more flavor in my life.
